Every spring, The Pines partners with the University of Oklahoma for its annual community volunteer day, known as The Big Event. This year’s Spring Cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 11, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. As in previous years, we’ve requested a group of approximately 40 student volunteers to assist with projects throughout our neighborhood. Their efforts will focus on clearing debris in our greenbelts, picking up trash, and filling holes behind the dams and spillways. Due to ongoing spillway construction, work along the east side of Shoreline Drive may be limited this year. However, we will have a load of soil delivered to mix with bentonite for filling smaller holes behind the West Lake dam timbers. The students consistently show up with positive attitudes and a strong willingness to help—and we love showing our appreciation by supporting them throughout the day. Whether it’s providing snacks and water, working alongside them, or simply being present to say “thank you,” your involvement makes a difference. The Pines community includes approximately 115 homes and is responsible for maintaining two lakes, two dams, and extensive greenbelt areas. Events like this have a meaningful impact by helping reduce maintenance costs that would otherwise be covered by HOA dues.
